What is Malachite?
Malachite is a copper carbonite hydroxide mineral that crystalizes to create a rich green color. It can be identified by its streaks of light and dark greens.
Where is Malachite Formed?
Malachite is formed deep underground. Malachite was extensively mined at the Great Orme mines in Britain 3,800 years ago.
Where is Malachite Found?
The largest known mine is in the Ural Mountains in Russia. It is found worldwide including in the Democratic Republic of the Congo Gabon; Zambia; Tsumeb, Namibia; Mexico; Broken Hill, New South Wales; Lyon, France; Timna Valley, Israel; and the Southwestern United States, most notably in Arizona.
What is Malachite Used for?
It was originally believed to have been mined for copper and later it was used for creating green paint until the 1800's. Now it is mostly used as decorative objects.
